MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. – March 14, 2019 – Singularity University (SU), a global community with a mission to educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to help solve humanity’s grand challenges, today announced its acquisition of Futurism, a digital media company focused on leveraging breakthrough science and technology for global good.
New York City-based Futurism.com brings its audience of 10 million readers the latest in world news, products, and narratives as it relates to the future of science and technology. Other divisions of the company acquired by SU include Futurism Creative, an advertising studio, and Futurism Studios, a digital production studio. All acquired business units will continue to operate under the Futurism name, and Futurism employees will integrate into the SU team.
“SU and Futurism both have a passion for sharing practical examples of how science and exponential technologies can be harnessed to positively impact our world,” said SU CEO and Associate Founder Rob Nail. “Our shared mission empowers our combined communities to collaborate and tell the stories of tomorrow, today.”
Through the acquisition, SU gains enhanced capabilities to help organizations communicate their future vision and strategy in compelling ways, including:
- Media & Editorial – SU will leverage Futurism’s web assets, including its industry-leading website, to reach a much broader audience of inspired individuals looking to use technology to make the world a better place. For SU enterprise customers, it will give large organizations access to a targeted, engaged audience with a curiosity about the future and technology.
- Creative Services – Futurism’s team of creative professionals craft custom, inspired digital assets for forward-looking companies. The in-house team creates sizzle reels, campaigns, and unique content to showcase how companies are creating the future.
- Film & Studio – Futurism also produces short films and documentaries that bring technology and innovation to the forefront. From network docu-series to full-length feature films, Futurism’s storytellers share an inspiring and optimistic view of the future.
Gravity Products, Futurism’s direct-to-consumer product company and home to the popular Gravity Blanket, will not be part of the SU acquisition and will emerge as a standalone, independent business under separate management.
Futurism has leveraged its growth as a popular digital media outlet into a successful sale to a like-minded organization. SU and Futurism share a similar mission and worldview, presenting Futurism an opportunity to mobilize and expanded global audience with a bias for action. Likewise, SU will gain access to a large network of forward-looking individuals inspired by exponential technologies to address the world’s most urgent problems.
“Futurism and SU are a perfect fit because our organizations share a mutual purpose – to encourage productive conversations about the future of humanity,” said Futurism founder and CEO Alex Klokus. “We’re incredibly proud of the publication we’ve built, and this partnership will only help us grow. At a time when so many publishers are facing strong headwinds, we see nothing but potential in joining the SU family.”
Klokus attended the SU Executive Program in July 2015 and Exponential Finance in 2017. He also has been involved in the SingularityU New York City Chapter.
